Six new organomolybdenum and organotungsten halides with general formulas η5-C5Ph5Mo(CO)3X·nCH 2Cl2 and η5-C5Ph5W(CO)3X (X=Cl, Br, I) were synthesized through the reaction of η5C5Ph5M(CO)3Li formed from η5-C5Ph5Li and M(CO)6 with PCl3, PBr3 or I2 and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and MS spectroscopies. The structure_of η5-C5Ph5Mo(CO) 3I·0.5CH2Cl2 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. It crystallized in the triclinic space group P1 with cell parameters a=8.476(2), b=10.704(2), c=19.075(4) A, α=84.20(3), β=88.42(3), γ=71.58(3)°, V=1633.7(6) A3; Z=2 and Dx=1.616 g cm-3. The final R value was 0.046 for 4161 observed reflections.
