New 20-22 membered macrocyclic azacrown ether-thioethers 34-37 were prepared in 50-60percent yields by the sodium borohydride readuction of the corresponding Schiff bases 11-18.The latter were obtained in 40-60percent yields by cyclocondensation of the appropriate 1,ω-bis(2-formylphenoxy)alkanes 5 or 6 with the appropriate 1,ω-bis(4-amino-1,2,4-triazol-3-ylsulfanyl)alkanes 19-26 in glacial acetic acid under conditions of high dilution.Compound 14 was alternatively obtained by cyclizing 38 with 1,3-dibromopropane in ethanolic sodium methoxide solution.Compound 38 was prepared by condensing 34 with salicylaldehyde in glacial acetic acid.The 1,ω-bis(4-benzylideneamino-1,2,4-triazol-3-ylsulfanyl)alkane derivatives 27-33 have been obtained by reacting 19-25 with p-methoxybenzaldehyde in glacial acetic acid.
