The synthesis of a series of beta -cyanoethyltrialkoxysilanes with the general formula of (RO)//3Si(CH//2)//2CN is described, and the results of experimental studies of their physicochemical properties are reported. A comparison of the physicochemical properties of beta -cyanoethyltrialkoxysilanes and methyl- beta -cyanoethylbisalkoxysilanes shows that the density, viscosity, index of refraction, and evaporation heat are higher in the compounds of the first series than in the second series, while the surface tension is slightly lower, which indicates a higher surface activity and beter flow properties. The change in the structure of the molecule due to substitution of the methyl group on the silicon by an alkoxy group should apparently significantly affect the structure of the liquid (the mutual arrangement of the molecules) and thus the packing coefficient of the molecules in the bulk phase.
