Usage

General Description

2-Benzothiazolyl-3-(4-carboxy-2-methoxyphenyl)-5-(4-(2-sulfoethylcarbamoyl)phenyl)-2H-tetrazolium, also known as MTS, is a yellow water-soluble compound commonly used in biochemical assays to measure cell viability and proliferation. When added to living cells, MTS is reduced by mitochondrial dehydrogenases to form a formazan product, which is soluble in tissue culture medium. The amount of formazan produced is directly proportional to the number of living cells in the sample, making MTS a useful tool for assessing cell viability and evaluating the effects of different compounds, drugs, or treatments on cell growth and survival.
