Synthesis of novel 2,4 (1h, 3h)-quinazolinedione derivatives with analgesic andanti-inflammatory activities

Starting from mefenamic acid a series of 1- (2,3- dimethyl- phenyl) -2,4 (1H,3H)-quinazolinedione derivatives were prepared. Structures of the new compounds were confirmed by microanalysis, IR, and 1H-NMR. Seven representive compounds were subjected to preliminary pharmacological screening which revealed that some of them exhibited analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity greater than mefenamic acid.
