The heartwood of Berchemia zeyheri yielded 4,6-dihydroxy-3-(4- hydroxybenzyl)-3-methylbenzo[b]-furan-2(3H)-one and the 5- and 7-[2-(4- couznaroyl)]maesopsins, benzofuranoid-type flavonoids with molecular backbones reminiscent of products of benzylic acid rearrangement.
