Reactions of arenediazonium tetrafluoroborates with butyl vinyl ether in aqueous acetone in the presence of alkali metal or ammonium chlorides, bromides, and thiocyanates result in formation of, respectively, 1-chloro-, 1-bromo-, and a mixture of 1-thiocyanato and 1-isothiocyanato-1-butoxy-2-arylethanes. Reaction of the thiocyanate-isothiocyanate mixture with ammonia yields N-(2-aryl-1-butoxyethyl)thiourea and 1-thiocyanato-1-butoxy-2-arylethane.
