Silane, butoxydichloromethyl-, also known as butylchlorodimethylsilane, is an organosilicon compound with the chemical formula C6H15Cl2OSi. It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in organic solvents and has a molecular weight of 197.19 g/mol. Silane, butoxydichloromethyl- is primarily used as a coupling agent in the production of composite materials, such as fiberglass and carbon fiber-reinforced plastics, to improve the adhesion between the resin matrix and the reinforcing fibers. It is also employed as a silylating agent in organic synthesis and as a reagent in the preparation of other organosilicon compounds. Due to its reactivity with moisture, it is sensitive to air and moisture, and should be stored under an inert atmosphere.
