The dimeric chelates (M2L2) of the bivalent d-metals (Co, Ni, Pd, Cu, Zn, and Cd) with tridentate azomethine ligands (H2L) obtained from o-N-tosylaminobenzaldehyde and o-hydroxy- or o-mercaptoanilines are synthesized and studied by IR and ESR spectroscopy, magnetochemistry, and thermal gravimetric analysis. It is revealed that the N2O2 and N2S2 environment of metal is realized in complexes. The copper and nickel chelates feature the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction, which most strongly manifests itself in the presence of the bridging fragment (Chemical Equation Presented). Upon recrystallization from pyridine, the dimers transform into the monomeric adducts of composition MLPy.
