2,2',6,6'-Tetraphenyl-4,4'-bipyridine, also known as TPB, is a synthetic organic compound characterized by its rigid, planar structure. It consists of two phenyl rings connected by a bipyridine bridge, with additional phenyl groups attached to the bipyridine nitrogen atoms. TPB is known for its strong fluorescence and is often used as a fluorescent sensor due to its ability to bind to metal ions, particularly transition metals. This property makes it valuable in various analytical applications, such as detecting metal ions in environmental or biological samples. The compound's fluorescence can be quenched or enhanced upon binding, providing a sensitive and selective method for ion detection. TPB's stability, low toxicity, and ease of synthesis also contribute to its utility in research and potential industrial applications.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 18780-03-5 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,8,7,8 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 18780-03:
(7*1)+(6*8)+(5*7)+(4*8)+(3*0)+(2*0)+(1*3)=125
125 % 10 = 5
So 18780-03-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

supporting information, p. 3597 - 3608 (2013/03/28)

The efficient synthesis of mono- and dinuclear Os(iv) bipyridyl complexes is reported. These compounds show a two-step oxidation process leading to notable structural changes, which are reflected in their emission properties. During the second oxidation process a tetracation with a hydride-dihydrogen structure (instead of a trihydride) is formed. This results in a significant bathochromic shift of the emission band, accompanied by a moderate increase in intensity.
