Using the Leuckart reaction followed by reduction of the obtained N-formyl derivative methyl[1-(2,4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethyl]amine is synthesized, which after separation with (+)-tartaric acid affords (-)-methyl[1-(2,4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethyl]amine for which the (S)-configuration is proposed basing on the data of optical rotatory dispersion.
