Triphenyltelluronium triodide, with the chemical formula (C6H5)3TeI3, is a compound consisting of a tellurium atom bonded to three phenyl groups and three iodine atoms. It is a yellow crystalline solid that is sensitive to light and moisture, and it is commonly used as a reagent in organic synthesis, particularly for the introduction of the tellurium group into organic molecules. Due to its sensitivity, it should be stored in a dark, dry environment to prevent decomposition. Triphenyltelluronium triodide is also known for its potential applications in the synthesis of various organotellurium compounds and as a precursor in the preparation of other tellurium-containing materials.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 18987-54-7 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,8,9,8 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 18987-54:
(7*1)+(6*8)+(5*9)+(4*8)+(3*7)+(2*5)+(1*4)=167
167 % 10 = 7
So 18987-54-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Soft-soft interactions of iodide and triiodide ions with triphenyltelluronium cations

Du Mont, Wolf-W.,Jeske, Joerg,Jones, Peter G.

, p. 1243 - 1249 (2010)

The crystal structures of triphenyltelluronium iodide and of triphenyltelluronium triiodide were solved by X-ray diffraction. Triphenyltelluronium iodide consists of ladder-like tetrameric units involving dicoordinated iodine atoms, bridging penta- and hexacoordinated tellurium atoms, and tri-coordinated central iodines that bridge one pentacoordinated and two hexacoordinated tellurium atoms. Triphenyltelluronium triiodide is made up of extended chains that are generated by pairwise interaction of Ph 3Te-I3 units through weak Te···I contacts involving one terminal atom from each triiodide ion, and by connection of these four-membered units through both terminal atoms of the triiodide ions. This asymmetric contribution of the two terminal iodine atoms of the triiodide ion to the soft-soft network correlates with a significant difference of the two I-I bond lengths (2.847 and 2.984 A).
