We synthesized various carbazoles from anilines through a three-step process with good overall yields (up to 48percent). This process comprises N -acetylation, copper(0)-mediated Ullmann homocoupling, and acid-mediated intramolecular amination. It permits various functional groups on the substrate. Scale-up of the developed three-step synthetic route to carbazoles was also demonstrated.

The invention belongs to the technical field of organic photoelectric materials, and relates to a synthesis method of 2,7-dimethyl-9H-carbazole. The synthesis method comprises the steps: 4,4'-dimethylbiphenyl is nitrified to manufacture 2-nitryl-4,4'-dimethylbiphenyl, after separating out and drying, the 2-nitryl-4,4'-dimethylbiphenyl is mixed with triethyl phosphite under nitrogen protection to generate a ring-forming reaction, finally, a mixture is washed through a silicagel column, and the 2,7-dimethyl-9H-carbazole is obtained. The step of heating at more than 100 DEG C is omitted, thus consumed heat is less, the yield of the obtained product reaches 85% or above, and the purity of the obtained product reaches 99% or above.
