The six-membered title ring systems with a ring skeleton isomerize on heating into derivatives consisting of the five-membered ring skeleton while retaining the boron to boron bond.A redox disproportionation competes with the isomerisation, and becomes increasingly important as the C-C bond length of the six-membered rings (6 -1,3,2-dithiaborole (7a) can be replaced by a halogen atom in electrophilic displacement reactions.
