The invention provides novel heterocyclic compounds having thegeneral formula (I), and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R1 to R4, m, n, and p are as described herein. Formula (I). Further provided are pharmaceutical compositions including the compounds, processes of manufacturing the compounds and methods of using the compounds as medicaments, in particular methods of using the compounds as antibiotics for the treatment or prevention of bacterial infections and resulting diseases.

The organometallic approach to diversity-oriented organic synthesis was subjected to a further test, this time in the phenol series. The model compounds selected were 2,3,6-trifluorophenol, the three isomers of (trifluoromethoxy) phenol and the three isomers of chlorophenol. A combination of optionally site selective metalations and protective group-controlled metalations enabled the selective generation of several isomeric intermediates in each case and their subsequent conversion into functionalized derivatives, in particular hydroxybenzoic acids.

The present invention relates to compounds of the formula (1) STR1 where R is H, a straight-chain or branched alkyl radical with 1 to 6 carbons, a fluorinated straight-chain or branched alkyl radical with 1 to 6 carbons, a benzyl radical, or a benzyl radical substituted by an alkyl group or alkoxy group with 1 to 4 carbons each, or by halogen, X is H, Cl, Br or I, and X is different from R, and a process for their preparation.
