It's all relative: A practical and efficient PdII-catalyzed regio- and chemoselective chlorination/bromination has been developed for the facile synthesis of a broad range of aromatic chlorides. The reaction demonstrates excellent reactivity, good functional-group tolerance, and high yields. A preliminary study was conducted to evaluate relative directing-group abilities of various functionalities. Copyright

, (2008/06/13)
The invention relates to 2-alkylmercapto-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic esters of the formula (II), in which R1 and R2 are, independently of each other, (C1 -C6) alkyl, and a process for their preparation, which comprises reacting 3,4-dichlorobenzotrifluoride electrochemically at an anode with CO2 to give 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-benzoate, converting it into the corresponding benzoic ester of the formula (I), and then reacting it with an alkylmercaptide R2 Se.
