2,4,4,6,8,8-Hexanitro-2,6-diazaadamantane: A High-Energy Density Compound with High Stability

A novel high-performance energetic compound of the polynitroazaadamantane family, 2,4,4,6,8,8-hexanitro-2,6-diazaadamantane, was designed and synthesized from 1,5-cyclooctadiene by two routes. Based on the experimental and calculated results, it exhibits a surprisingly high density (1.959 g cm-3), high thermal stability (onset decomposition temperature of 235 °C), high positive heat of formation, and excellent detonation properties. These fascinating properties, which are comparable to those of CL-20, show great promise for potential applications as a high-energy density material.

The invention discloses a nitro derivative and a synthesis method thereof. The method comprises the following steps: 9-azabicyclo[3.3.1]non-2,6-diene used as a raw material undergoes acylation, epoxidation, cyclization, acylation and oxidation steps to construct a 2,6-diazabicycloadamantane-4,8-dione skeleton, and the skeleton undergoes hydrolysis, acylation, oximation, geminal nitrification andnitration steps to finally synthesize the 2,4,4,6,8,8-hexanitro-2,6-diazabicycloadamantane. The diazaadamantane skeleton is constructed through the steps of acylation, epoxidation and cyclization, hasthe advantages of simplicity in reaction post-treatment, high yield, small reaction pollution and the like, and can be used in the fields of medicines, functional materials and the like; and the polynitroazaadamantane prepared through the steps of oximation, geminal nitrification, nitrolysis and the like has the advantages of symmetric structure, high density, excellent explosion performance, lowsensitivity and the like, and can be applied to the fields of medicines, explosives, propellants, pyrotechnic compositions, fuels and the like.
