Single crystals of mixed-halide tin(II) complex compounds (PhNH3)[SnFX2] (X = Cl or Br) are grown from aqueous solutions and studied by X-ray diffraction analysis. The triclinic structure (PhNH3)[SnFCl2] is refined within the constraints of space group Pl. The Sn(II) atoms are each coordinated by two chlorine atoms [Sn-Cl 2.47(1)-2.593(8) A] and one fluorine atom [Sn-F 2.01 (2)-2.11(1) A]. The resulting coordination polyhedron [SnFCl2E] is a distorted trigonal pyramid with a tin electron lone pair in its vertex. The monoclinic structure of (PhNH3)[SnFBr2] is refined within the constraints of space group Cc. The coordination polyhedron of tin atoms is a distorted octahedron, with the vertices occupied by the electron lone pair; two Br atoms at distances of Sn-Br, 2.70-2.86 A; two Br atoms at larger distances, Sn-Br 3.15-3.34 A; and a F atom at distances of Sn-F, 1.98-2.16 A.
