195157-34-7 Usage
General Description
The chemical (3R)-4-(2-amino-6-oxo-3,6-dihydro-9H-purin-9-yl)-3-(hydroxymethyl)butyl L-valinate, also known as Valganciclovir, is an antiviral medication used to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. Valganciclovir is an oral prodrug of ganciclovir, which inhibits the replication of CMV by interfering with the viral DNA polymerase. Once ingested, Valganciclovir is converted to ganciclovir, which then acts to prevent the spread of the virus by inhibiting its ability to replicate. It is often used in patients with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS, organ transplant recipients, or individuals undergoing chemotherapy. Additionally, Valganciclovir may also be used for the treatment of CMV retinitis, a serious eye infection that can occur in individuals with HIV/AIDS.
