A number of insertion products, viz., Me2Al(μ-i-Pr2N)2Mg[(t-Bu)NC(CH 3)S] (1), Me2Al(μ-i-Pr2N)2Mg[(Ph)NC(CH3)S)] (2), Me2Al(μ-Et2N)2Mg[(t-Bu)NC(CH3)S] (3), Me2Al(μ-Et2N)2Mg-[(Ph)NC(CH3)S] (4), {Me2Al(μM-Et2N)2Mg[(Ph)NC(CH 3)O]}2 (5), and Me2Al(μ-i-Pr2N)2Mg[SC-(CH3)S] (6) have been synthesized using polynuclear aluminum-magnesium compounds and various heteroannulenes such as isothiocyanates, isocyanates, and carbon disulfide. All the new compounds were characterized by 1H and 13C NMR, IR, and elemental analysis. The structures of two of the above compounds, 1 and 5, have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique.
