Synthesis and structure of the first alkylidenetelluragermirane

The first stable alkylidenetelluragermirane 4 was synthesized by the reaction of an overcrowded diarylgermylene Tbt(Mes)Ge: 2b (Tbt = 2,4,6-tris[bis-(trimethylsilyl)methyl]phenyl; Mes = mesityl) with 9-(dichloromethylene)fluorene, 3, followed by addition of tributylphosphine telluride. X-ray crystallographic analysis of 4 shows that the geometry of its telluragermirane ring can be explained in terms of a π-complex binding model of a tellurium atom to a germaniumcarbon double bond.
