Stereospecific Preparation of (Z)- and (E)-Isomers, Respectively, of Some Vinyl Fluorides

By means of the addition of "BrF", prepared in situ from N-bromosuccinimide and the hydrogen fluoride-pyridine complex, to the isomeric olefins (Z)- and (E)-1a-c and elimination of hydrogen bromide from the resulting threo- and erythro-bromofluorides 2a-c by KOH, the (Z)- and (E)-vinyl fluorides 3a-c are obtained in a stereospecific manner.
