Reaction of dimethyl(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)amine with a series of primary arylamines and aromatic diamines is studied. Reaction of primary arylamines with dimethyl(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)amine can involve not only one, as it was believed previously, but also both hydrogen atoms of the amino group. The products of reaction of dimethyl(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)amine with aromatic diamines (p-phenylenediamine and benzidine) can be both N- and N,N'-hydroxybenzylated derivatives, depending on reaction conditions.
