2-Thiopyrogallol : A New Spectrophotometric Reagent for Rhenium
Bag, Saswati P.,Chopra, Ramesh K.
, p. 159 - 161 (2007/10/02)
2-Thiopyrogallol reacts with rhenium(V) to give a violet colour complex formed by reducing ReO-4 with the ligand itself at 9 N HCl.The complex has absorption maximum at 535 nm and is extractable into a mixture of iso-amyl alcohol and chloroform (1 : 9).Beer's law is obeyed from 0.25 to 16 ppm rhenium (ε = 1.58*1E4).With the exception of molybdenum and palladium, the method is free from usual interferences. The isolated complex has the composition ; this is supported by elemental analysis, ir, conductance, ion-exchange and magnetic moment studies.By proper extension of Leden's method, the overall as well as stepwise formation constants for 1 : 3 system have been evaluated.
A Photometric Method for the Determination of Molybdenum with 2-Thiopyrogallol in Isoamyl Alcohol
Bag, S. P.,Chakrabarti, A. K.,Goswami, J. P.
, p. 153 - 154 (2007/10/02)
Molybdenum(VI) reacts with 2-thiopyrogallol to form a stable violet coloured complex which can be extracted with isoamyl alcohol. The complex extracted from 1.2 M HCl has an absorption maximum at 525 nm (absorptivity = 1.9E4 litre mol-1cm-1).Job's method of continuous variation and mole-ratio method show that the complex has a 1:2 stoichiometry (metal:reagent). It is found to obey Beer's loaw from 0.5 to 10 p.p.m. with optimum range of 1-7 p.p.m.Only Pd(II) and W(VI) interfere in the determination of molybdenum in the photometric determination using 2-thiopyrogallol as the reagent.
