Guanidine, N,N'-dicyano-, also known as dicyandiamide or DCDA, is an organic compound with the chemical formula (NH2)2C(CN)2. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water and has a melting point of 209°C. DCDA is primarily used as a curing agent for epoxy resins, enhancing their mechanical properties and thermal stability. It is also employed in the production of cyanamide, a compound used in fertilizers and as a reducing agent in chemical synthesis. Additionally, dicyandiamide has applications in the rubber industry as a vulcanizing agent and in the manufacturing of dyes and pigments. Due to its reactivity with isocyanates, it is used in the production of polyurethane foams. DCDA is considered a hazardous substance and exposure to it can cause health issues, so proper safety measures should be taken during its handling and use.
