Acid-catalyzed reactions of 1,2,4-triazine 4-oxides with indoles yield isolable σ adducts as intermediates in nucleophilic substitution of hydrogen. Oxidation of the σ adducts results in formation of new indolyl derivatives of 1,2,4-triazine 4-oxides.
