The invention provides a preparation method of N - cyanoethyl - N - acetoxyethyl aniline. The preparation method comprises the following steps of 1) carrying out hydroxylation reaction N - cyanoethylaniline with ethylene oxide to obtain hydroxylate N - cyanoethyl - N - hydroxyethyl aniline. Step 2), the hydroxylate N - cyanoethyl - N - hydroxyethyl aniline is subjected to an esterification reaction with acetic anhydride and/or acetic acid to obtain an ester. N - Cyanoethyl - N - acetoxyethyl aniline prepared by the preparation method is low in cost and simple in step, and the obtained product is high in yield and high in purity.
