A novel bromido- and azido-bridged dinuclear copper(II) complex, [Cu 2Br2L2]·[Cu2Br(N 3)L2]·H2O, where L is the deprotonated form of the Schiff base 4-chloro-2-[(2-hydroxyethylimino)methyl]phenol, has been prepared and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, and single crystal X-ray crystallography. Each Cu atom in the complex is coordinated by three donor atoms of Schiff base ligand and by two bridging atoms, forming a square pyramidal geometry. The bromide and azide ligands are preferred bridging groups for the construction of dinuclear copper complexes with Schiff bases. Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
