An approach towards enantiomerically pure taxoidic A,B-ring fragments

Ketones 7 and 8, available from (-)-β-pinene by Fe-catalyzed CO- insertion, can be transformed into enantiomerically pure taxoidic A-ring building blocks like 10 or 13 via a concise and novel route. For the subsequent A,B-ring synthesis, a ring closing metathesis approach is described for the first time.
