Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
N-[2-(diethylamino)ethyl]-4-methoxy-9-oxoxanthene-1-amine monomethanesulphonate is used as a schistosomicide for the treatment of infections with Schistosoma haematobium and S. mansoni. However, due to its toxicity and concerns about possible carcinogenicity, it has been replaced by other drugs such as praziquantel.

Sensitive to light. A 10% solution in water is stable for at least 24 hours after preparation. Decomposes rapidly in aqueous acid solutions. .
