General Description

4,4'-Diacetoxydiphenyl ether, also known as diacetoxydiphenyl ether, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C16H14O4. It is a white crystalline solid that is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. This chemical is often used as a cross-linking agent in polymer chemistry, particularly in the production of epoxy resins. It is also used as a curing agent for epoxy resins, as a heat transfer medium, and as an intermediate in the synthesis of various organic compounds. Eighteen novel gemini quaternary ammonium compounds were synthesized to examine the effect of linker nature, aliphatic chain length and their relative position on antibacterial and antifungal activity. The synthesized compounds showed strong bacteriostatic activity against a panel of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and two fungi.
