Synthesis and Some Reactions of 7-Nitroimidazo[4,5-c]pyridin-4-ones

Imidazo[4,5-c]pyridin-4-one and its alkyl-substituted derivatives are readily nitrated under mild conditions to give the corresponding 7-nitro derivatives. The position of the nitro group is confirmed by comparison of the 1H NMR spectra of the nitration products of imidazo[4,5-c]pyridin-4-one and its deuterated analog. Some transformations of the resulting nitro compounds through the carbonyl group have been studied.
