, p. 759 - 764 (2008/01/27)
Polycondensation reaction of diacid chlorides incorporating 3,4,5,6-tetrachlorophthalimide or 5-(4-acetoxybenzamide) pendent units with different aromatic diamines containing ether, sulfone or isopropylidene linkages gave two series of aromatic polyisophthalamides containing pendent 3,4,5,6-tetrachlorophthalimide or 5-(4-acetoxybenzamide) groups. These polymers were soluble in polar amidic solvents, gave transparent flexible films and showed good thermal stability. Conformational parameters of the polymers were calculated by the Monte Carlo method with allowance for hindered rotation. Several physical properties of these polymers such as solubility, glass transition temperature and initial decomposition temperature were experimental measured and discussed in relation with the rigidity of their chains.

, p. 695 - 703 (2007/10/03)
Aromatic poly(phenylquinoxaline-amide)s containing pendant benzamide groups have been synthesized by solution polycondensation of equimolar amounts of aromatic diamines having phenylquinoxaline units with 5-(4-acetoxybenzamide) isophthaloyl chloride, in N-methylpyrrolidinone (NMP) as a solvent and in the presence of pyridine as acid acceptor. These polymers were characterized by IR spectra, viscosimetry, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analyses. These poly(phenylquinoxaline- amide)s show good solubility in polar aprotic solvents such as NMP, dimethylformamide (DMF) and dimethylacetamide (DMA), good thermal stability with initial decomposition temperature above 330°C and glass transition temperature in the range of 220-335°C. Their weight average molecular weights are in the interval of 29000-91000 and the polydispersity is in the range of 1.4 and 2.5.
Comparative study of aromatic polyamides containing side benzamide groups

, p. 219 - 229 (2007/10/03)
A new diacid chloride containing a side benzamide group, namely p-acetoxy-benzamido-isophthaloyl chloride, was synthesized by the reaction of p-acetoxy-benzoyl chloride with 5-amino-isophthalic acid followed by further treatment with thionyl chloride of the corresponding intermediate dicarboxylic acid. This diacid chloride underwent the polycondensation reaction with various aromatic diamines having ether bridges to give aromatic polyamides with side 5-(4-acetoxy-benzamide) groups. Compared with conventional aromatic poly(isophthalamide)s, these polyamides show improved solubility in polar aprotic solvents, such as NMP and DMA, and have weight- and number-average molecular weights in the range of 36 680-65 700 and 12 685-35 490, respectively, and polydispersities in the range of 1.82-3.66. The polymers show good thermal stability, with initial decomposition temperature being between 270-320°C and glass transition temperature in the range of 230-270°C. They were cast from solutions into thin transparent flexible films having dielectric constants in the range of 3.42-4.27. The polymer films display remarkable hydrophilicity which makes them potential candidates for use as advanced materials in humidity sensors.
