Methanesulfenyl fluoride, trichloro-, also known as trichloromethanesulfenyl fluoride or chloromethylsulfonyl chloride, is a chemical compound with the formula Cl3CSF. It is a colorless, volatile liquid with a pungent odor. Methanesulfenyl fluoride, trichloro- is an important intermediate in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other organic compounds. It is produced by the reaction of chloromethane with sulfur dioxide and chlorine. Methanesulfenyl fluoride, trichloro- is highly reactive and can undergo various chemical reactions, such as nucleophilic substitution, elimination, and addition reactions. Due to its reactivity, it is used as a reagent in the preparation of sulfonamides, sulfonates, and other sulfur-containing compounds.
