The enantiomerically enriched β-hydroxythiocyanates were obtained by a microbiological reduction of the thiocyanatoketones with Saccharomyces cerevisiae or Mortierella isabellina and subsequently converted into optically active thiiranes on treatment with a lithium hydroxide solution.
