Potassium 2-(2,4,5-trichlorophenoxy)propionate, also known as Silvex, is a synthetic auxin-type herbicide used to control broadleaf weeds and woody plants. It is a derivative of the natural plant hormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and works by mimicking the action of IAA, leading to uncontrolled growth and eventually death of the targeted plants. Silvex is particularly effective in controlling weeds in cereal crops, pastures, and non-crop areas. However, due to its potential environmental and health risks, including persistence in soil and water, as well as its classification as a possible human carcinogen, its use has been restricted or banned in several countries.
