Synthesis and characterization of new bis[2-(4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolinyl)phenyl]chalcogenides: crystal and molecular structure of bis[2-(4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolinyl)phenyl]telluride

Synthesis and characterization of bis[2-(4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolinyl)phenyl]telluride (3) and bis[2-(4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolinyl)phenyl]selenide (4) are desctibed. The existence of Te/Se...N interactions in these compounds was probeb by 1H, and 125Te/77Se-NMR and X-ray crystallography. The X-ray crystallographic studies of 3 indicate that the nitrogen atoms of both the oxazoline rings interact with the Te atom giving rise to a structure of 12-Te-4-tellurane which is in contrast to the reported structures of related systems where although two nitrogen atoms are capable of interacting with tellurium, only one interacts at room temperature.
