The reactions of 1-isopropyl-2,5-dinitropyrrole, 1a, with methoxide and p-toluenethiolate ions in methanol have been studied.The kinetic results were compared with those, available from previous works, for the reactions of 1-methyl-2,5-dinitropyrrole, 2a, with the same nucleophiles.The results of an experimental (DNMR) and theoretical (semiempirical MO calculations) investigation of the conformational behaviour of the isopropyl group in compound 1a were used in the analysis of the kinetic data.
