PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound that has an excellent pest control efficacy. SOLUTION: Provided are a 2,6-dichloro-3,5-difluoro-4-substituted benzyl ester of chrysanthemic acids represented by the following formula (XIX), and a pest control agent and a pest control method using the same. Examples of the substituent include a methyl group, a methoxymethyl group and the like. Chrysanthemic acids include chrysanthemic acid, 2,2-dimethyl-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)cyclopropanecarboxylic acid, 2,2,3,3-tetramethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid, 2,2-dimethyl-3-(1-propenyl)cyclopropanecarboxylic acid and the like. The synthesis of polyfluorinated benzyl alcohol from pentafluorobenzoic acid has been developed. An economical and effective direct reduction method of polyfluorobenzoic acid by zinc borohydride is described.
