Treatment of peptides containing an α-chloroglycine residue with triethylamine and catalytic amounts of triphenylphosphine constitutes an efficient method for the stereoselective synthesis of amino acid and peptide dimers bridged by a C = C-double bond. The dimers can be converted into novel peptide structures by standard methods of peptide synthesis. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd.
