The stable ferrocenyldiphenylpropargyl cation (3) is readily and quantitatively generated from the propargylic alcohol 2 with a slight excess of tetrafluoroboric acid in dichloromethane at -78 °C. The cationic species 3 was characterized by 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy; nucleophilic trapping reactions gave rise to the formation of ferrocenyldiphenylallenes 9.
