N-(5-Ethyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-4-(salicylideneamino)benzenesulfonamide (L1), N-(1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-4-(salicylideneamino)benzenesulfonamide (L2), and N-(4-methoxypyridazin-2-yl)-4-(salicylidene-amino)benzenesulfonamide (L3) react with cobalt, nickel, and copper acetates in ethanol to give coordination compounds of the general formulas M(L1-2H)·nH2O, M(L2-2H)·n H2O, and M(L3-2H)·nH2O (M = Co, Ni, Cu; n = 2-8). Similar reactions in the presence of pyridine (Py) (pH 8) gave complexes MPy2(L1-2H)·n H2O and MPy2(L2-2H)·nH2O (M = Co, Ni, Cu; n = 0, 1). All the products are polynuclear coordination compounds, where Schiff bases L1, L2, and L3 are bridging ligands which are linked with one central ion by the oxygen atom of the deprotonated hydroxy group and nitrogen atom of the azomethine moiety, and with the other, through the deprotonated thiazole (L1 and L2) or pyridazine (L3) nitrogen atom and the sulfonamide oxygen atom. Thermolysis of the complexes includes dehydration (60-90°C), deaquation or deamination (140-240°C), and complete thermal decomposition (370-650°C).
