N,N'-(9,10-dihydro-4,8-dihydroxy-9,10-dioxoanthracene-1,5-diyl)bis[4-methoxybenzamide] is a purple-blue gray powder that is insoluble in water but soluble in 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene, xylene, and pyridine. It exhibits color changes in concentrated sulfuric acid, turning brown light red, then green, and finally yielding a brilliant blue-green precipitate upon dilution in a sulfuric acid and boric acid solution. Alkaline reduction results in a red-brown leuco, while acid reduction yields a dark red light purple leuco.
