The effect of the structure of mixed-radical organic sulfides on the rate of the bimolecular reduction of the gold complex AuCl3L (L is an organic sulfide molecule) in separated sulfide extracts in the CCl4 medium is studied at 313 K. The rate of the reduction reaction is shown to be equally controlled by the inductive and steric effects of substituents at the sulfur atom. The data obtained in this study confirm the mechanism of reduction via the formation of the intermediate AuCl3L2 complexes with the coordination number of 5.
