Nitrophenol derivatives oxidized by cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) and their cytotoxicity
Pan, Wen-Bin,Wei, Li-Mei,Wei, Li-Lan,Wu, Chin-Chung,Chang, Fang-Rong,Wu, Yang-Chang
, p. 581 - 588 (2007/10/03)
Oxidation of a series of phenols with cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) in acetonitrile undermild conditions yields the mixture of corresponding nitrophenols. In the cases of methylphenols and hydroxy-carboxylic acids, the steric effect may reduce the nitration reaction. Compounds 3 a and 4b showed selective activities to Hep 3B and Hep G2 cancer cell lines, respectively. Compound 2c showed selective activities to Hep G2 and MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines. Further more, com pound 10b showed selective activities to Hep G2, Hep 3B, MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines.
Evidence of an electron-transfer mechanism in the peroxynitrite-mediated oxidation of 4-alkylphenols and tyrosine
Grossi, Loris
, p. 6349 - 6353 (2007/10/03)
The mechanism of interaction of the peroxynitrite with some 4-alkylphenols and tyrosine was mainly studied by means of ESR spectroscopy and product analysis. The radical intermediates, detected as spin adducts to the 5-diethoxyphosphoryl-5-methyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide (DEPMPO), were identified as carbon-centered radicals to the benzene ring. The reaction seems to proceed via an electron transfer process (ET), most likely mediated by a NOx derivative, leading to the intermediacy of a phenoxyl-type radical as proved by the detection of the corresponding Pummerer-type ketone. No evidence of the formation of hydroxyl radicals, due to the homolytic cleavage of the peroxynitrite at physiological pH was obtained, even though DEPMPO hydroxyl spin adducts were detected: the latter most likely arises from the direct attack of the spin trap by the oxidant species. The possible involvement of HCO3-/CO2, i.e., the formation of the nitrosoperoxycarbonate, ONOOCO2.-, was also investigated.
Reaction of cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate with simple phenols in a silica gel matrix
Chakrabarty, K,Chawla, H M,Suresh, V V
, p. 464 - 466 (2007/10/02)
The oxophilicity of cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate is moderated by the addition of hydrogen peroxide. The reaction with simple phenols becomes regioselective when carried out in a silica gel matrix. The methodology has been employed for the synthesis of new functionalized terphenyls and biphenyls.
Synthesis of Nitrobis- and Nitrotris-cresols Using Cerium (IV) Ammonium Nitrate
Chaudhuri, Kakoli,Chawla, H. Mohindra
, p. 272 - 273 (2007/10/02)
Cerium (IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) has been conveniently employed for the first time to obtain nitro substituted bis- and tris-cresols which are otherwise obtained via lengthy and difficult routes. This is the first report on one-pot and one-step synthesis of oxidatively coupled cresols.Plausible mechanism for the reaction involved has also been suggested.
