Complexes of cis-1,2-bis(dimethylarsino)ethylene. II. Carbonyls and nitrosyls

The reactions of cis-1,2-bis(dimethylarsino)ethylene (cis-edas) and o-phenylenebis(dimethylarsine) (das) with the carbon monoxide derivatives of chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, and nickel and with Fe(CO)2(NO)2 and Co(CO)2NO have been investigated. The new complexes prepared in this study include Cr(CO)4(cis-edas), Mo(CO)4(cis-edas), W(CO)4(cis-edas), Ni(CO)2(cis-edas), Fe(NO2(das), and Co(CO)(NO)(das). The ligands and their complexes were characterized by means of infrared spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, and nmr spectroscopy. Complexes of cis-1,2-bis(dimethylarsino)ethylene with iron and cobalt nitrosyls proved to be too unstable to isolate. An improved method for the preparation of Cr(CO)4(das), Mo(CO)4(das), and W(CO)4(das) is also reported.
