(S)-(+)-Axinellamine A [(2E,4E,6S)-2-(6-methyl-2,4-octadienyl)pyrrole, 1] was synthesized by starting from (S)-(-)-2-methylbutan-1-ol and pyrrole. The absolute configuration of the naturally occurring (-)-axinellamine A, a metabolite of the marine sponge Axinella sp., was therefore determined as R.
