The synthesis of 2-deoxy-C-glycosides and rare-C-saccharides from the γ,δ-olefinic alcohols is described. In the presence of Pd(II) reagents these olefinic alcohols undergo an efficient intramolecular oxidative cyclisation to afford the target molecules.
