The crystal structure of tris(p-tolyl)tin pyridine-2-thiolate has been determined from diffractometric data (R=0.058 for 1523 reflections).The two crystallographically independent molecules (space group Pna21, Z=8) have identical structures: The Sn atom forms a normal covalent bond with the S atom (Sn-S 2.45 Angstroem) and a coordinate bond with the N atom (Sn...N 2.73 Angstroem); the four-membered chelate ring is practically planar, and the angle SnSC, as a result of coordination, is decreased to 92 deg.
