Benzenemethanol, 2-hydroxy-4-pentadecyl-, also known as 2-hydroxy-4-(1-pentadecenyl)benzyl alcohol or 2-hydroxy-4-(1-pentadecenyl)benzenemethanol, is a complex organic compound with the chemical formula C22H40O2. It is a derivative of benzyl alcohol, featuring a long-chain pentadecyl group attached to the benzene ring. Benzenemethanol, 2-hydroxy-4-pentadecyl- is characterized by its hydroxyl group (-OH) and a double-bonded alkenyl chain, which contributes to its unique chemical properties. It is primarily used in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals, fragrances, and other specialty chemicals due to its versatile structure and reactivity.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 35151-94-1 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 3,5,1,5 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 35151-94:
(7*3)+(6*5)+(5*1)+(4*5)+(3*1)+(2*9)+(1*4)=101
101 % 10 = 1
So 35151-94-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Page/Page column 16-17; 33-34, (2020/09/27)

This disclosure relates to use of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) phenolics in the manufacture of molecules having ESIPT character, wherein said molecules are UVA and/or UVB absorbers, and further wherein said molecules are formulated as protectants against UVA and/or UVB radiation. The disclosure extends to use of CNSL in the manufacture of compositions including molecules having ESIPT character for treating and/or preventing sunburn and/or preventing U.V. damage.

Valorisation of Cashew Nut Shell Liquid Phenolics in the Synthesis of UV Absorbers

Ngwira, Kennedy J.,Kühlborn, Jonas,Mgani, Quintino A.,de Koning, Charles B.,Opatz, Till

, p. 4778 - 4790 (2019/08/07)

With current concerns over the use of fossil resources for chemical synthesis of functional molecules and the effect of current UV absorbers in sunscreens have on the ecosystem, we describe a xylochemical synthesis of different classes of aromatic UV absorbers utilizing cashew nut shell liquid as a non-edible bio-renewable carbon source. Hydroxybenzophenones, xanthones, triazines, and flavones were synthesized starting from cardanol or anacardic acid. Several compounds exhibited favorable UVA and UVB absorption characteristics.

The synthesis of 2-hydroxymethyl derivatives of phenols

Payne, Peter,Tyman, John H. P.,Mehet, Satinder K.,Ninagawa, Akira

, p. 402 - 405 (2007/10/03)

2-Hydroxymethylphenols have been prepared in good yield by reduction with sodium borohydride of the precursor aldehydes, obtained regiospecifically from reaction of phenols with paraformaldehyde in toluene containing stannic chloride and tri-n-butylamine. By contrast, reaction of phenols with either paraformaldehyde under anhydrous conditions or with aqueous formaldehyde results in formation of both the hydroxymethyl and the bishydroxymethyl derivatives. Cyclic acetals of the precursor aldehydes are readily accessible.

The separation and synthesis of lipidic 1,2- and 1,3-diols from natural phenolic lipids for the complexation and recovery of boron

Tyman, John H.P.,Mehet, Satinderjit K.

, p. 177 - 199 (2007/10/03)

A study has been made of the semi-synthesis of 1,3-diols (anacardic alcohols) from natural phenolic lipid resources from Anacardium occidentale and Anacardium giganteum which have given C15 and C11 derivatives, respectively. An isomeric 1,3-diol (isoanacardic alcohol) has been obtained from cardanol separated from technical cashew nut-shell liquid. Homologous1,3-diols have been synthesised from a range of synthetic 2-alkyl-, 3-alkyl- and 4-alkylphenols and from 6-alkylsalicylic acids. The natural 1,2-diol, urushiol, from Rhus vernicifera has been purified. All these lipidic compounds have been studied for their complexation and the potential recovery of boron as boric acid.

Compounds of the formula STR1 in which; X represents a straight chain hydrocarbyl group containing from 8 to 17 carbon atoms; Y represents H or the group--CH=NOH, and Z represents H or the group--CH=NOH or the group--CPh=NOH, provided that at least one of Y and Z represents H; or such compound containing at least one electronegative substituent in the aromatic ring, may be prepared from anacardic acid and its analogues, and are useful for the extraction of copper from acidic aqueous solution. Cardanol, which has the formula STR2 where n=0, 2, 4 or 6 is recovered from cashew nut shell liquid containing cardol and other dihydric phenols by reacting the dihydric phenols in the CNSL with an aldehyde while leaving the cardanol substantially unreacted, and vacuum distilling the cardanol from the reaction mixture.
